What's it like to be a low-ranking county magistrate in ancient times?

Alternate history / farming / infrastructure building / no romance

Meng Changqing transmigrates to ancient times and disguises herself as a boy from childhood to protect her family's property.

After offending the consorts by beating up the Crown Prince, she is exiled to the far north to serve as a minor official.

The emperor is so guilty over the punishment he had no choice but to impose that he can't sleep.

Meng Changqing, however, is so delighted that she packs through the night and leaves the capital before dawn.

Wonderful, absolutely wonderful! After thirteen years of being treated like a nobody in the capital, she's finally free!

From now on, she, Meng Changqing, can live as she pleases!

She's going to be a little emperor in Beishan County!

But the moment her carriage enters the county seat, she freezes.

What is going on?

Is this really a county seat, or a gathering place for refugees?

The people are so hungry they're eating dirt, and half of them have frozen to death.

With no choice, she puts aside her plans to rule like a little emperor and starts gathering supplies for the people under her care, bit by bit.

She teaches them to grow sweet potatoes and build heated brick beds, gradually bringing them up to a decent standard of living.
