There are people in this world who have both talent and luck, yet always seem to fall just short of happiness. Lin Xiaoguai is one of them, fortunate and unfortunate all at once.
The youngest daughter, doted on by her family, Lin Xiaoguai is pretty and clever, but has four mediocre, timid older brothers and four formidable sisters-in-law. Her family's bad background leaves her future bleak, but she manages to get into university at just the right age. Her beloved father is in high spirits after a happy occasion, lies down for a nap, and never wakes up. Overwhelmed with grief, Lin Xiaoguai falls ill, but her brothers and sisters-in-law, greedy for money, marry her off while she's unconscious with a high fever. Fortunately, she meets a decent man, but his family is a handful, and amid the chaos, she loses the ability to become a mother.
Heartbroken, she divorces him and leaves for a distant place. She makes a new life for herself in the city, with money and free time, living comfortably and independently. But in her old age, a golden finger suddenly appears, decades later than it should have. Only her easygoing nature keeps her from being driven to despair.
Disaster strikes from the heavens. She thinks she's about to die, but when she opens her eyes, she's back where it all began.
Lin Xiaoguai thinks that if she manages to ruin her life again, she must be an absolute idiot.
