Link, the game's number-one mage, led his team in taking down the final boss of the latest version, the Abyss Lord Nosamas. A game cinematic appeared.
The cinematic was crude: an endless void, with a dim orb of light in it claiming to be the Lord of Radiance.
"Link, are you willing to save the continent of Ferroman, shrouded in darkness?" the Lord of Radiance asked.
A lofty, righteous mission like this was obviously too much to agree to in real life. But surely he could act cool in a game?
"I am willing!" Link answered solemnly.
"Then go."
And so Link was dumped into the miserable continent of Ferroman.
