In the eighth year of the Shunzhi era of the Qing dynasty, the Eastern Barbarians had seized most of the Central Plains. Sun Kewang sought to retake Huguang from Yunnan and Guizhou, while Zheng Chenggong raised the Ming banner in Fujian and Zhejiang.
Yet deep in the mountains and forests of Kuidong, a little-known force was still holding out against the Qing. They were the Kuidong Thirteen Families, a volunteer army led by the likes of Li Laiheng!
Known to the Qing court as the "notorious bandit Little Li" and to the common people as the "Little Chuang King," Li Laiheng fought the Qing in Kuidong for twenty years!
After the Southern Ming armies and other volunteer forces had either surrendered to the Qing or been wiped out, he alone still guarded the last piece of Han land in the Central Plains with his life!
He transmigrates into Li Laiheng's body, only to face troubles within and threats without: the Loyal and Chaste Camp is torn apart and utterly disorganized. The Tartars seize cities and territory, pressing in from every side! The Southern Ming court is on the verge of collapse, yet it still mistrusts and sidelines the soldiers of the Loyal and Chaste Camp at every turn!
If nothing changes, he will run out of ammunition and food during the Tartars' great campaign of extermination in the third year of the Kangxi era, and die by fire!
Faced with such a desperate situation, how can he turn the tide and restore the Han people's traditions and culture?
