Blurb: A modern woman transmigrates to ancient times overnight. She sets out to live a peaceful life, following the principle of leaving others alone as long as they leave her alone. But fate has other plans. Born into the upper class, she is destined to marry a man from another noble family, and from then on gets caught up in a series of troubles and power struggles.
Which ancient noble family isn't connected to others by marriage, with a man taking three wives and four concubines? Qu Qingyou never expected to marry into such a powerful clan, either, least of all the foremost of the three dukedoms. She can only tread carefully, relying on her quick wits to carve out a place for herself.
What peace and stability could there be in the ancient imperial court? It is all flashing blades and shifting rivalries, as one contender takes the stage after another. As the daughter-in-law of a ducal household, how could Qu Qingyou stay out of it? She has no choice but to navigate the company of the palace's noble ladies with care.
For herself, her husband, and her family, being a noblewoman in ancient times is no easy task. How will this transmigrated woman make her way as one?
Excerpt One:
As he approached with a smile, he saw her pluck a pink ball-shaped flower and toy with it in her hand. He smiled and said, "Are you going to throw it to me?"
Qu Qingyou had been lost in thought. At the sound of a man's voice, both familiar and strange, she looked up and saw Luo Hao standing before her, smiling, his clothes fluttering in the breeze. He did look rather like a gentleman. She smiled and tossed him the flower. "Then you'd better catch it, young master."
Could he be the one destined to be her lifelong partner?
Excerpt Two:
Old Madam Mu smiled. "I don't know whether that Qu girl is lucky or unlucky to have run into you. But Qingyou really is exceptional. Our Duke Dingguo's household needs a daughter-in-law like her if it's to prosper for another hundred years."
"Great-grandmother, you do think far ahead." Luo Hao took a cup of ginseng tea from a maid and handed it to her.
"Don't tell this old woman that isn't what you're hoping for, boy." Old Madam Mu narrowed her hawkish eyes. After taking a sip of tea, she began teasing her grandson again. "That Qingyou girl doesn't seem easy to tame. I really wonder which of you will get the better of the other after you marry."
Luo Hao smiled. "Why does that sound like you're talking about two armies facing off? I married my wife to cherish her. What's all this about taming?"
Excerpt Three:
"Wife, what is love?"
Tipsy, Qu Qingyou tilted her head and stared at him in confusion. "You fool, you don't even know what love is?"
"Then why don't you tell me, wife?"
"Love means one man and one woman, together for a lifetime. That doorway is narrow. There's only room for the two of us, Hongyu. Do you understand?"
His first thought was that she wanted him all to herself. "Wife, you want me to dote on you alone forever, don't you? Why beat around the bush?" Why use such an incomprehensible word as love?
Only then did Qu Qingyou realize that she and he had never belonged to the same world. She tried her best to fit into his, but he could not enter hers.
But so what? She would still find a way to make him fall for her, little by little: fall for her body, and fall for her heart.
