A Heavenly Little Cutie at Home: We Thrive Through the Famine

The Qi family has a little girl!

If she says it won’t rain, it won’t rain. If she says it won’t be windy, it won’t be windy. It’s as if her words have magic.

Manbao: “Grandpa, the ants are moving house. It’s going to rain!”

Old Master Qi: “Be good, Manbao. We’re harvesting the crops. We can’t have rain now!”

Manbao pouts: “All right, then! I’ll talk to Grandpa Jade Emperor.”

Sure enough, on harvest day the sky was full of dark clouds and lightning flashed and thunder rumbled, but not a single drop of rain fell.

When it’s time to sell the grain, Manbao says, “Grandma, we can’t sell it. We’ll need it to eat on the road.”

The Qi family: “What do you mean, on the road?”

Manbao tilts her head. “On the road, you know! Lots of people traveling together, wearing ragged clothes and so skinny they look like sticks.”

“What? You mean fleeing famine?”

The Qi family is stunned. How could they suddenly be fleeing famine when life was going so well?

Fleeing famine is terrifying!

But when they really do have to flee, the Qi family discovers that life on the road can actually be quite comfortable!

Villager One: “Hey, why is the Qi family making meat stew again today? It smells delicious!”

Villager Two: “You don’t know? I heard those rabbits ran straight into Manbao’s arms like they were crazy. Oh, if only I had a Manbao too.”

The Qi family: “Dream on!”

Manbao, chewing on a rabbit leg with grease all over her face: “Hehehe, Grandpa Heavenly Dao says Manbao is still little, so she has to eat her fill to grow tall.”
