Yun Shan, a tough-as-nails courier from the 21st century, gets into a car accident and transmigrates into an alternate ancient world. She is reborn as a new widow whose husband has just died in the army. After her sister-in-law falsely accuses her of seducing her brother-in-law, she angrily bangs her head against a wall and dies. The moment Yun Shan opens her eyes, she and her twin children have been thrown out of the house.
Leading her two scrawny children, thin as sticks, she looks at the ramshackle house halfway up a mountain, where they must live alongside wild beasts, then at the few acres of barren sandy soil and the piles of rocks around the house.
Yun Shan bursts into tears. “This farming mode is way too damn unfair!”
But it turns out the worst part is that she gets a useless golden finger, a portable weather-forecast System. “Host, please note: As a friendly tip upon your initial registration, a prolonged drought and flood disaster will strike for three years beginning next spring. Please stock up on money and grain.”
Yun Shan collapses to the ground. “You unleash your ultimate move right off the bat? Are you trying to scare me to death? Or are you trying to scare me to death?”
Yun Shan really wants to die, but she can't bear to, so she grits her teeth and does everything she can to create the conditions she lacks. After all, starving to death is a horrible and painful way to go...
And so...
She works hard at farming.
She works hard at raising her son and daughter.
She works hard at digging holes everywhere like a mouse and stashing grain.
But... why does she keep feeling that her five-year-old, supposedly prodigious son sneaks glances at her with a look that is sometimes complicated, sometimes hateful, and sometimes sinister?
Her scheming wolf-cub of a son: In this life, it seems a kind “mouse spirit” has possessed Mother. So who am I supposed to take revenge on for the inhuman torment and hatred I endured in my previous life?
Her sweet, food-loving daughter: Mother can make so many delicious things! Mother is the best, the very best!
Her ex-husband, hoping to rekindle their relationship: That foolish woman has managed to make a name for herself through farming. Should I take her as a concubine, or tempt her with the position of equal wife?
The tall, burly county magistrate, a rough man whose wives die young: “Young lady, marry me! I want to grow old with you, spend my whole life with you, and have only you as my wife.”
Yun Shan sneers. “How can you guarantee that?”
The magistrate: “I have a special fate.”
Yun Shan: “?”
“In the 26 years since I was born, I've killed seven fiancées, ten women who wanted to be my concubines, nine maids who wanted to be my bedchamber attendants, five famous courtesans who wanted to be my mistresses, and four widows who wanted to be my lovers.”
Yun Shan listens, stunned. “What?”
Seeing that his future wife is both frightened and doubtful, the magistrate hurries to add, “Young lady, I swear, you and my mother are exceptions. Any other woman who comes along, I'll kill her. If they come in a group, I'll kill the whole lot. Tell me, once we're married, which woman would dare risk her life to steal her man from you?”
“So you want to marry me because you don't want to be a bachelor all your life, and you'll settle for taking me home as a baby-making tool. Get lost...” Yun Shan slams the door, though her heart says otherwise.
The magistrate stares in bewilderment, then starts pounding on the door in a panic, sweat pouring down his forehead. “Young lady, you've got me all wrong! I really do like you~~~”
