The Lucky Adopted Daughter Leaps Over the Farmyard Gate

The Bai family was well known in the village for two things: having far too many sons and being so poor their house was bare. Everyone said only a daughter could turn the family’s bad luck and poverty around. They never got the daughter they hoped for, but they did take in an adopted girl. The girl was blessed with koi luck, and the Bai family grew more prosperous by the day. When she went fishing in the river, fish leaped right into her arms. When she went up the mountain to catch rabbits, they all ran into trees. When she dug for mushrooms, they turned into ginseng in her hands. The lucky adopted daughter led her family to fortune through farming and business, making them the richest family around. Her brothers flourished in both the civil and military examinations.
