The tidal wave of dark matter is tearing apart the Milky Way, leaving the Solar System with nowhere to escape. The era of wandering is a thing of the past. Humanity no longer flees. It has spent eighteen centuries building twelve galactic anchors in an attempt to pin the collapsing galaxy.
On one side are the anchoring faction who sacrifice for generations and cling to their physical home; on the other side are the leaping faction who abandon their bodies and join the quantum drift. Sixty generations of people are trapped in an underground dome, and their individual joys and sorrows are insignificant in the face of the destruction of the galaxy. When the hellish universe comes, the last stubbornness of human civilization will never drift away.
