Local chronicle restorer Shen Yan discovered the non-existent "Wuyi Village" in a volume of flood-damaged county chronicles from the Qing Dynasty. The villagers' register not only includes those who have disappeared in recent years, but also writes down their deaths in advance. In order to prove that his father who had been missing for 20 years really existed, he and reporter Xu Zhaoye tracked down a township shuttle bus that had been out of service for 18 years, and gradually discovered that everyone whose reality records were deleted will eventually become villagers in Wuyi Village.
Wuyi Village originated from a plague that was wiped out by the government during the Yongzheng period. The scribes used the ashes of the deceased's clothes to write ink, and wrote the villagers back into the county annals, causing a conflict between official annals and private annals, and the village has been parasitic in the gaps of history ever since. County annals cannot create the past out of thin air, but can only replace several possible histories; every time a piece of history is supplemented, another piece of history will be overwritten.
