Young Shen Yan was born in an ordinary village on the edge of the wilderness. Since childhood, he has been able to see the afterimages of mountains and seas that others cannot see. He originally just wanted to live a stable life, but due to a disaster caused by alien beasts, he was involved in the secrets of the ruins of the mountains and seas. He traveled to the famous mountains and rivers recorded in the "Book of Mountains and Seas", encountered Jiuwei, Bifang, Kunpeng, Taotie, Qiongqi and other strange beasts, got to know the ancient relics, the fallen immortals, and the ghost officials in the netherworld, and uncovered the truth about the ruins.
There is no absolute good or evil in this world. Divine beasts may not be kind, immortal sects may not be noble, and ancient gods may also have selfish motives. The so-called cultivation of immortality is not to blindly pursue immortality, but to understand the past of mountains and seas, to protect the broken world, and to find a way of life for mortals among gods, demons, humans, and ghosts.

This book does not describe a smooth journey to becoming a god, nor does it describe the black and white confrontation between good and evil. I want to tell the story of an ordinary boy who travels between broken mountains and seas, looking for a way out of mortal life in a troubled world of gods, monsters, humans, and ghosts.
