The young Toba Ga was originally the only son of a wealthy family. His father died when he was seven years old. The family property was seized by his uncle and aunt, and his mother and son were reduced to slaves. His mother endured the humiliation for more than ten years and eventually ordered him to go out and learn spells to avenge his blood. After he learned it, he cursed and cast hail to create murderous karma, but he was deeply regretful and turned to seek relief. He followed Marpa, the founder of the Kagyu sect, and went through nine brutal ascetics of building and demolishing houses. He finally obtained the dharma, lived alone in a snow mountain retreat, and ate nettles. Finally, he became a Buddha and became the greatest yogi in the snowy land - Supreme Milarepa.
