In the summer of 1990, seventeen-year-old Su He and his fellow villager Atang took the green train from Qingwu County to Lingang. They believe that "when they arrive in Lingang, they will have a home." In the past ten years, Su He's hands were numbed by the stamping machine on the assembly line, he lost Atang in a fire, he discovered that good intentions can be suffocated in a "three-month quick marriage", and he tore off the ticket stub of the temporary residence permit in front of the seal of the factory. She lived in the urban village of Xixiang. On the balcony, a pot of wild chrysanthemums brought from Qingwu accompanied her through the four seasons, and an iron candy box contained all the unsent letters. When her breathing no longer needed to be calibrated by the click of the stamping machine, she finally understood: there is no shore in the south, and wandering itself is return.
