The world consists of two overlapping yet incompatible layers. The present world, visible to ordinary people, is a mediocre shell where the rules are fixed and everything follows its prescribed course. The Overlapping Realm, born in dependence on the present world and known to no one, is a chaotic domain where countless abandoned obsessions, discarded rules, and expired destinies gather.
The Overlapping Realm does not harm people of its own accord, but its rules can leak through. Every regret, lie, or shattered obsession in the present world causes fragments of the Overlapping Realm to fall into it, forming an “Anomaly Leak.” These leaks alter the rules of local reality, trapping ordinary people in repeating tragedies, scrambled memories, and twisted fates. The consequences can be as small as a family destroyed or an obsession driving someone mad, or as great as a town falling silent or an entire region being sealed off.
Since ancient times, no one could explain these anomalies, until the first “Realm Seers” appeared a century ago. They can see fragments of the Overlapping Realm and sense flaws in its rules, allowing them to enter Anomaly Leaks and repair reality’s distortions. But being a Realm Seer comes at a fatal cost: every time they repair reality, they permanently lose one of their own memories. Family ties, love, identity, and the past can all be stripped away, until they are left as empty shells, devoid of memory and desire.
