Venerable of the Desolate Ruins: A Mortal Wields His Sword to Slay the Gods

A hundred years ago, the gods from beyond the heavens tore open the sky screen, using the souls of all living beings as sustenance. City after city in the mortal world became lifeless ruins. The court sought immortality, the Daoist sects withdrew from the world, and no one dared face the gods anymore. Since childhood, the young Qingxuan had watched over a dilapidated ancient temple deep in the mountains. Hidden inside was an ancient god-slaying sword sealed away for a thousand years. When the gods descended, he witnessed the mountain god become their lackey and the immortals of old bow down in submission. Only then did he realize that these so-called gods and immortals were nothing but predators feeding on the mortal world. The gods issued an order to stamp out every spark of mortal resistance. Countless innocent people were seized and offered as sacrifices. Qingxuan awakened the ancient sword and, in a mortal’s body, shattered the altar with a single strike, cutting down a god who had descended to earth. But the path to slaying gods was never easy: the gods of the Heavenly Realm took turns descending to hunt him down, former allies who feared his power secretly framed him, and even the woman who had captured his heart turned out to be a pawn planted among mortals by the gods. He made the temple his line of defense, gathering mortal cultivators who refused to submit and building a bulwark amid the ruins of the gods’ dominion. Everyone feared the gods’ might. Only he dared to proclaim, “I will slay anyone who dares to oppress the mortal world.” When the supreme god of the Heavenly Realm finally appeared in person, Qingxuan stood atop the ruined temple, gripping his long god-slaying sword, alone, facing the entire divine realm. This world was never meant to be ruled by the gods! It was meant for all living beings to face the gods!
