Chen Xiaoyu is the only person with a conscience in Loess Village. Her main job is selling fake medicine, and her side gig is arguing with the Heavenly Dao. Her grandfather, Chen Ping’an, suppressed the evil entity “Shi” for 137 years. After he died, he crushed his soul and stuffed it into her body, leaving behind one word: “Run.”
Chen Xiaoyu didn’t run. On the day she entered the sect, she stewed an inner disciple’s spirit beast. Eleven days after joining, at the fourth level of Qi Condensation, she blew up an ironback boar. Eighteen days after joining, at the fifth level of Qi Condensation, she defeated a Stone-Shattering Palm practitioner at the early Foundation Establishment stage. Everyone called her a good-for-nothing, so she taught them a lesson on the spot. Following her were Jiang Wang, who had kept track of her for nine years; Lu Chen, a steward covered in patches; and a Snowmoon Fox that sat on her windowsill at night with medicinal herbs in its mouth.
Eight evil entities began to awaken faster. She ate them one by one, until a black sword grew inside her. Then she grabbed it and stabbed through the Heavenly Dao. At the beginning of the book, she says, “What are you staring at, old geezer?” At the end, she says, “Jiang Wang, I’m back.”
From beginning to end, she never planned to run.
