She Said, "Forget It"

She stopped loving him, and only then did he panic. Shen Nian loved Fu Yanshen for five years. She went from a top student in architecture to a full-time housewife who spent her days in the kitchen, tucking all her pride away in an apron. He never touched her. Even knowing she had a fever of 104 degrees, he stayed with her for just one hour before leaving. She counted: in that one hour, he replied to twenty-eight messages. Twenty-eight. All to another woman. The day Lu Qingyu came back, he handed her divorce papers. “She needs me.” Shen Nian signed. She didn’t say a word more. Then she turned and called the mentor she hadn’t spoken to in five years. “Does KPF have any openings?” “Come in tomorrow.” Three months later, she came back. In a deep-blue Givenchy suit and eight-centimeter heels, she was an architect who commanded the room. He sat among the clients at a bidding presentation. After reviewing her proposal, he froze. He chased her into the hallway. “Shen Nian?” She smiled. “Mr. Fu, is there anything else you need me to clarify?” He panicked. He investigated her, again and again, until he found out she had visited an obstetrics and gynecology clinic the day after signing the divorce papers. She hadn’t kept the baby. He went crazy. She said, “Fu Yanshen, I don’t love you anymore.” He said, “What about me? What am I supposed to do?” Too late. She didn’t want him anymore.
