Yu'an Across the Years

Yan Ruyu was born into poverty. After her parents went to prison, every one of her relatives abandoned her, leaving her trapped at Minhang Welfare Home for thirteen years. Day after day, she endured exclusion, contempt, and cold leftovers, burying the trauma of being abandoned deep inside. Only the withered osmanthus tree in the courtyard and the treats Director Wang secretly left for her helped her survive the endless loneliness. The Zhangs knew everything about her past, yet adopted her without a hint of disdain. When she stepped into their little courtyard, filled with osmanthus trees, she met Zhang Yuchuan, a gentle and thoughtful boy. Her adoptive parents patiently helped her overcome her shyness and low self-esteem. Zhang Yuchuan always saw through the unease she tried to hide, soothing her many wounds with enduring tenderness. From a lonely girl who was cautious and always watched others’ expressions to a child with her own room, warm meals, and people who cared about her, Yan Ruyu slowly learned to accept this long-awaited family love. The fragrance of osmanthus linked her dusty past with her peaceful new home. As she and Zhang Yuchuan grew up together, they helped each other heal the sorrows of their youth. The osmanthus blossoms that once fell into the dust finally found a place of peace. This story of tenderness shared across the years portrays a lonely girl’s journey of healing, the rare gift of family love, and a boy’s steadfast protection.
