The 1980S Compound: The Fussy Army Wife Turns the Tables with a State Banquet

Su Wan, heir to the legacy of state banquet cuisine, transmigrates. The moment she opens her eyes, she finds herself in the 1980s, in an army compound, as the “delicate darling” army wife everyone despises and whose reputation is in tatters. Her home is bare, the rice jar is nearly empty, and she has to face a warning from her cold-faced husband, Regiment Commander Lu Huaiye, that he’ll “send her back.” Everyone in the compound is waiting to laugh when she gets sent back to her hometown. Even the neighbors next door have their sarcastic remarks ready. Su Wan sees the Chinese Cookbook Compendium awakening in her sea of consciousness and calmly picks up her spatula. “Send me back? Let me finish cooking this meal first.” One bowl of springy, refreshing Yangchun noodles makes Regiment Commander Lu, who swore he would never come inside, ask for seconds. One meal of rich but not greasy twice-cooked pork is so delicious that all the children in the compound cry and beg to trade their mothers for her. From revamping the army canteen’s communal dishes, to taking over the guesthouse, to founding a military-civilian joint food factory that becomes famous across the country... With nothing but her skill at wielding a wok, Su Wan makes a name for herself in the compound and rises all the way to the pinnacle of state banquets. The neighbors who once mocked her now line up with ration coupons in hand, begging for her guidance. The rivals who once looked down on her can only watch her make the front page of the papers and grind their teeth in frustration. As for Regiment Commander Lu, who was as cold as ice and only wanted to send her away... Late at night, he squeezes onto the narrow bed and wraps his arms around Su Wan from behind, his voice hoarse. “Wanwan, my stomach hurts. Only your cooking can cure me...”
