In 1937, Zhao Wanlin, a soldier in a unit of the Eighth Route Army, captured a Japanese Type 92 heavy machine gun on the battlefield. The gun followed Zhao Wanlin from northwestern Shanxi to the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei border region, striking fear into the Japanese invaders.
After victory in the War of Resistance, the machine gun accompanied Zhao Wanlin as he advanced into the Northeast, wiped out bandits, and crushed elite American-equipped forces. It then followed the great Fourth Field Army into the pass, helping liberate the country from the White Mountains and Black Waters all the way to Hainan Island.
But just when it seemed peace was at hand, the machine gun crossed the Yalu River with Zhao Wanlin once more. It saw action north and south of the Han River, and in the end, it fought through the entire campaign and returned home covered in glory.
