Lu Wushi is twenty-six and runs the Wushi Detective Agency in an old residential neighborhood west of the city. His name means “nothing to worry about,” but trouble always finds him, because he can see the dead.
One late night, a middle-aged male ghost with strangulation marks around his neck drifted into his rented apartment and said, “Detective Lu, I was murdered. You have to help me find out who did it.” Before Lu Wushi could refuse, an app called “The Book of Hidden Virtue” automatically installed itself on his phone. System notification: solve cases to earn hidden virtue, exchange hidden virtue for spells, then use spells to solve bigger cases. A perfect cycle, except no one had asked if he wanted in.
From then on, Lu Wushi's life went completely off the rails. By day, he was a down-on-his-luck detective taking civil dispute cases. By night, he was a spirit medium working between the worlds of the living and the dead. One request from the deceased followed another: a student’s fall from a school building led to a string of disappearances from seven years ago; a real estate tycoon’s poisoning concealed the influence of a cultivation sect; the accidental death of an underworld courier exposed corruption in the netherworld... With every case he solved, the dead aided him with their soul power, and his cultivation advanced. From the Awakening Realm to the Spirit Communion Realm, from investigating cases in the mortal world to hunting criminals in the underworld, from taking on vengeful ghosts to going toe-to-toe with demonic cultivators, Lu Wushi muddled through it all amid the Book of Hidden Virtue's cheeky notifications and the deceased's wildly varying signal strength.
The tone is light and comedic, but behind every case lies a bond the dead have yet to let go of in the human world.
This is a story about solving cases, cultivation, and saying goodbye, as well as the daily life of an ordinary man forced to work as a “spirit-medium wage slave” between the three realms.
The adventure of Wu Shi Detective Agency has come to an end for the time being. There are still dozens of chapters of the plot. This is my first novel. I don't want to stop updating it, but the subsequent plot is a bit out of touch with the purpose of the Detective Agency. I want to stop temporarily and think carefully, which may overturn the previous plot reconstruction. The Detective Agency bids farewell to everyone for the time being. Maybe not many people have read it. Lu Wu Shi will come back.
There are many flaws in the front. This is the last chapter of the second volume. The new volume will be opened soon. There are still more than 100 chapters in stock. I will not stop updating. I hope more and more people can read this novel.
