Miracle

On the seventh day before the sky fell apart, the camphor trees in Jiudu Middle School were still green and calm. Chen Xingye shook off the crowd and picked up a scattered notebook under the shade of a tree. A sketch slipped out between the pages - a profile of her with her chin raised, secretly drawn by the boy in the corner. "Yours?" She stuffed the notebook into the boy's arms, her tone sounding like charity. Yang Zhiyi blushed and murmured her thanks. Her fingertips brushed the pendant chain she handed over, and the metal was slightly cold. The old man basking in the sun on the street squinted his eyes to look at the pair of teenagers, with broken shadows of stars flashing in his cloudy pupils. "Two stars stay together, and there will be peace in troubled times..." The words scattered into the wind, and no one took them seriously. They didn't know it at that time, but some vows had been engraved in their bones and blood long before they met. I don't know that the burning sun will learn to be gentle, and cowardice will be tempered into courage. What's more, I don't know what long separation, struggle and reunion will be waiting for when the end truly comes. And all of this starts from the last peaceful dusk before the end of the world—— Let's start from the moment when the boy tightened his grip on the drawing paper and the girl turned around and left. Let's start with the first glimmer of light refracted by the star pendant in the dusk.
