The Coroner's Wife: Case Files

Also known as The Hairpin Laid Aside

Cool, aloof female coroner [emoji] x seemingly gentle, secretly calculating prince. Mystery-solving takes center stage, while romance is a slow burn that grows over time.

At eight years old, Lin Youqing witnessed the massacre of her family. Her loved ones were slaughtered, and overnight, the entire Lin clan of Qinghe was wiped out.

Clutching the knife left behind by a knife seller, she went into hiding in Lin County for ten years, enduring humiliation and biding her time, all for the day she could repay blood with blood.

Then Wei Yanchen, a man who seemed gentle but was unfathomably deep, came to her door with a case involving a children's rhyme.

She knew then that the chance to enter the capital, overturn the case, and investigate the truth behind her family's destruction had finally arrived.

As a coroner, she would solve strange cases in the open while secretly gathering clues about her old enemy.

A bloodstained children's rhyme, a mystery surrounding grain transport, a ghost bride...

One unsolved case after another turned out to be closely connected to the Lin family massacre ten years earlier.

Her benefactor's disguise was torn away, her enemy's identity was turned on its head, and the blood feud of the past became entangled with layer upon layer of family ties.

When the truth revealed its most brutal face, should she take up her knife for revenge, or let go of the past?

A paper boat carries wronged souls; a red hairpin makes offerings to the past.

Lin Youqing takes off the pearl hairpin her mother gave her and casts aside her life as a sheltered young woman.

With a knife as her brush and corpses as her scroll,

she refuses to be a caged bird. She seeks justice for the Lin family, and nothing less.

Wei Yanchen: Wrongful cases will be cleared one day. I'll walk this road with you to the very end.
