For ten thousand years, wars have ravaged the world. In ancient times came the war between humans and demons, when the Demon Saint massacred the four corners of the land.
Now the hundred human kingdoms are locked in civil war, while the evil Saint of the Immortal Path refines the world in blood.
Yet the court Confucians care only about political infighting, the Purist Confucians focus solely on the interests of Confucianism, the Military strategists fear nothing more than a peaceful world, the Buddhists feed only on the incense of the mortal realm, the Daoists withdraw to the mountains to question their hearts, and the rulers hold the world in their hands without doing a thing for the people.
Of the hundred paths in the mortal world, all turn away and speak of something else. Not one deserves to be called the Human Path.
Su Wenxin transmigrates into this world and becomes a private tutor. All he wants is to keep his students alive through these troubled times.
But he soon discovers that this world simply does not let people live.
He sighs for the hardships of the common people. He loathes the rulers and emperors who cultivate the Military Path and keep the land mired in endless war.
So one day, he cries out:
One proclamation shakes the highest heavens,
My pen strikes like a sword, felling dragons and serpents.
I have nurtured righteous qi within my breast,
And dare to ask Heaven what laws it follows!
He, Su Wenxin!
Is rebelling!
He rebels not against any one person, nor any one kingdom, but against that... wretched world itself!!!
If Heaven has no justice, then I shall become the Heaven of the common people!
This is a world of Daoist traditions.
The Ruler's Path: A prince who ascends the throne is third rank, an emperor who takes the throne is second rank, and a Human Emperor who succeeds to the throne is first rank.
The Official Path: Officials are appointed by the Ruler's Path. Positions are limited, and its highest rank falls below the first rank of the Son of Heaven.
The Military Path: The only official system unaffected by the Ruler's Path. Practitioners cultivate martial souls. Dual cultivation of martial and military arts is common, as is cultivating both the Ruler's and Military Paths. Those who serve the throne and later declare themselves independent can cultivate the Ruler's, Martial, and Military Paths together.
The Confucian Path: Practitioners cultivate literary qi and are divided into court and Purist Confucians. It includes the art of calligraphy; without calligraphy, one's combat strength is zero.
There are also the Immortal Path, Buddhist Path, Natural Path, Agricultural Path, Heavenly Secrets Path, Mechanism Path, Stratagem Path, and more. See the novel for details.
