The Last Snow Burns Half the Sky Red

Amid the mist-shrouded mountains of southern Yunnan, Feng Suichun, a newly graduated teacher volunteering in the countryside, unexpectedly encounters a camellia forest. Here, she meets the Duan father and son, who have devoted two generations to education in their mountain village. She witnesses student Xia Hua’s dream of continuing her studies being crushed by traditional marriage customs, and sees the remarkable life of Tong Xia Nuan, which strengthens her convictions. Before long, she is caught up in a struggle over the village’s survival and development. As bulldozers rumble through a century-old camellia forest, the fates of four villages diverge: Anxi Village takes the shortcut of quarrying stone, while Camellia Village vows to protect the green hills and clear waters left by their ancestors, even at the cost of their lives. Together with the villagers, Feng Suichun seeks a sustainable path to development through the “camellia economy.”
