Reborn in 1981: Rising from the Mountains as a Hunter

A bone-chilling wind swept snow into the thatched hut. Chen Dashan looked at Zhao Huilan, so emaciated in his arms she was little more than skin and bones, and felt as if an icicle had pierced his heart! It was 1981, and his wife, who had been tormented for years by her stepfather and birth mother before meeting a miserable end, was still alive! “Just wait, honey.” He grabbed his crude tools and headed into the mountains. When he returned, he was carrying two wild pheasants. “From now on, your bowl will be piled high with meat!” When his stepfather came around to throw his weight about again, Chen Dashan kicked the old man to the ground. “Anyone who dares bully my wife will have to get through me!” Seeing Zhao Huilan clutch the glistening pheasant meat, tears falling as its rich aroma filled the air, Chen Dashan silently vowed: In this life, no one would lay a finger on her! The villagers were jealous? They thought he had no father’s love or mother’s care, and no brothers to back him up? Then they could see how hard his fists were, and whether the bullets in his gun knew who they were! Chen Dashan hunted wild boars in the mountains, taking down whole herds, and sold tens of thousands of pounds of local produce. Before he’d even gotten used to being a ten-thousand-yuan household, he became the first person in the village to buy a tractor! Zhao Huilan tugged at his sleeve and quietly urged him, “Dashan, you’re drawing too much attention…” Chen Dashan clasped her soft hand and gazed at the endless mountains with a smile. “Drawing attention? This is what it means to be alive!” From a barren mountain village to a bustling city, from a hunter in the wilds to a tycoon of his age! Riding the tide of reform and opening up, Chen Dashan would make up for every debt and regret from his past life, one by one, for the girl by his side whose eyes shone when she smiled. In this turbulent era, he would live a life a hundred times brighter than the one he’d had before!
