I Transform at Death’s Door, Dump My Scumbag Childhood Friend, and Marry His Martial Uncle

After receiving a paper crane carrying her childhood friend’s plea for help, Yu Zhiyu, whose Taoist skills are so weak she’s little better than an ordinary person, rushes to save him without regard for her own safety. But her younger female cousin frames her, leaving her badly injured, and the man she loves, blind and foolish, abandons her and tells her to die. Yu Zhiyu, who has been a doormat all her life, raises a hand and slits her own throat. An immortal can’t stand watching and slaps some sense into her. Then, to punish her for not valuing her life, the immortal curses her: the next time she’s on the verge of death, she’ll randomly turn into any animal. At last, Yu Zhiyu comes to her senses: Who needs a childhood friend or a crush? She’s done with him! She turns around and latches onto her junior granduncle’s coattails. Yu Zhiyu hunts demons and vanquishes evil, saving the daughter of a powerful family today and helping a young nobleman tomorrow. Officials and nobles, even members of the imperial family, all come running to beg for her protection. Even the Empress Dowager bows gracefully and calls her “Your Excellency.” Her elder uncle and third aunt, who always looked down on her family, come groveling, hoping to get a contracted demon. Yu Zhiyu has her long-oppressed father send them a message: “Surely not! Your cousin and my uncle and aunt are the best of friends. Surely she can find you a contracted demon to protect you, can’t she?” Her childhood friend, who still thinks she can’t live without him, beams with confidence: “A-Yu, since you’ve worked so hard for me, I’ll agree to become your Dao companion.” Yu Zhiyu: ??? “Have you asked your junior granduncle about that?”
