There is a group of children who, because of physical or intellectual disabilities, struggle to attend regular schools and can only study at special education schools, commonly called “special ed.” Jian Ning School in Y City is one such school. This year, it welcomed two new employees: Tian Yi, an art teacher who has spent years failing to make a name for himself, and Tang Qi, the school doctor, who brings her autistic son to school. Here, they face students of different ages with conditions including intellectual disabilities, autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, Rett syndrome, Angelman syndrome, and deafness and muteness. There are moments of exasperating comedy, chaotic messes, heartbreaking helplessness, and the joy of finding a place in society. In the end, conviction and love help Tian Yi and Tang Qi build a new future, both for these special children and for themselves.
