My Dearest, Just as If You Were Here

Wen Ruwu waited faithfully at the general's estate for seven years. At last, her husband returned, but at his side was a woman who had been with him for five years, along with a daughter. He even wanted to take the woman as his equal wife, turning Wen Ruwu into a laughingstock in the capital. She would be better off without a marriage like that, but the general refused to divorce her. Just then, the young man who had captured her heart in her youth returned from the provinces. He was still as graceful as the moon and a gentle breeze. This time, the young chief minister said, "I don't want to miss my chance again."

Years later, no longer young, the chief minister took her hand beneath the veranda. "Ruwu, my wife, may every year bring you peace and joy."
