In the autumn of the second year of Jian Yuan, during the enthronement ceremony of the new emperor of Great Liang:
Prince Wei Li Changsheng led a white deer into the hall and asked, "My lords, I have an eye condition and cannot tell things apart. Please tell me, is this a deer or a horse?"
The hall fell silent.
A moment later, they replied, "Your Highness, do you think it is a deer or a horse?"
Prince Wei said, "This is an unparalleled black dragon steed!"
They all cried, "Congratulations, Your Highness, on obtaining a black dragon steed!"
Prince Wei said, "You lords truly have sharp ears and keen eyes. You are all loyal and worthy subjects of Great Liang!"
Everyone was delighted, except the new emperor, who looked troubled.
Prince Wei said, "You think you can get away with that?"
