Bazhai is the collective name for the eight villages including Gupeng, Gumao, Gubo, Boding, Duzhe, Luomo, Siji and Zhou'an. It is located in Yong'an Township, Qianjiang County, Liuzhou Prefecture, Guangxi.
In the ninth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1376), the farmers in Gupengzhai launched an uprising, and the Zhu Ming court dispatched the Wolf Soldiers, the chieftains of Western Guangxi, to suppress it.
In the twenty-fifth year of Hongwu (1392), the imperial court set up eight wolf soldiers and hundreds of households in the Bazhai area to control the people of Bazhai.
During the Jingtai period (1450-1457), the farmers in Bazhai could not bear the oppression and exploitation of their rulers and launched another peasant uprising.
This book tells the story of several leaders of Bazhai leading farmers to launch an uprising against the chieftains and the government.
