Old Bookmarks from the Bookshop in the Old Alley

At the end of a flagstone lane, tucked away, stands an old bookstore with no sign. The owner, Lin Yansheng, spends his afternoons basking in the sun and writing with an old fountain pen on yellowed scraps of paper. Sometimes they're notes to help lost belongings find their owners; sometimes they're endings to stories that readers have asked him to continue. One day, a girl clutching a faded photograph pushes open the wooden door, hoping to find an old fairy tale from twenty years ago. Instead, she discovers a secret hidden behind every scrap of paper: an unsent love letter tucked into a retired teacher's lesson plans; a restored old stamp inside a worn diary; even a sticky note in a dusty reference book that reads, “Umbrellas available to borrow on rainy days.” As the scraps are opened one by one, the stories of the old alley slowly come to light: the old man at the watch-repair shop next door keeps a promise; the young woman at the flower shop downstairs hides feelings she has never confessed; and Lin Yansheng himself is still waiting for someone who never came back. There's no thrilling plot here, only sunshine, old books, and the tenderness hidden between the lines. Perhaps here, too, you'll find a trace of time that belongs to you.
