The Thousand Gates

My name is Li Jie. Jie means to quit gambling. When I was a child, my grandpa carved out a kingdom for himself in the underworld with his gambling skills. But, as the old saying goes, if you walk by the river often enough, you're bound to get your shoes wet. A fortune made through shady means won't last three generations. After Grandpa died, both my parents lost their lives to gambling, and I was left to live on the streets. Perhaps Heaven thought it wasn't my time to die, because I met Old Pang and his daughter. And in a cruel twist of fate, Grandpa had named me Jie, meaning to quit, yet now I keep going further down the gambling path for the sake of the people who matter most to me... (A warning to everyone: stay away from gambling.)
