The Trial of Frostflame

Shi Chen knelt on the white jade steps of the Xuanji Immortal Sect for a hundred years.

He was the sect's lowliest servant. His fingers, as dry as bones, clutched a broom, and even his breath carried the taste of dust. When he shakily asked to hold someone's hand once before he died, all he got was the icy mockery of the sect leader, Ling Shuangyue.

"A decrepit old servant thinks he can talk about love?"

He had scrubbed the ninety-nine jade steps spotless with his bloodied hands, yet could not win a single promise.

On the brink of death, he stumbled upon a horrifying secret: the peerlessly beautiful, aloof sect leader was being devoured by the backlash of the Frostflame Art. Beneath her icy skin lay a heat that burned her heart and gnawed at her bones.

"You need yang energy?"

A mad smile spread across Shi Chen's withered face.

He had once been an ant for anyone to trample. Now he had the Nine Heavens Phoenix by her weak spot.

By the Ice Jade Pool, steam billowed. Using the pure yang energy he had accumulated through a hundred years of humble service, he forcibly broke open the immortal gate sealed in ice.

"You want me to be your cultivation furnace?"

Shi Chen caressed her breathtakingly beautiful face, vengeance burning in his one eye.

"Then I'll use this broken body to refine your lofty Xuanji Immortal Sect!"

A hundred years of enslavement, repaid in a single day.

When the lowliest speck of dust touches the pure radiance of frost, a monstrous storm is bound to follow.

You see me as an ant?

Then I'll show you how an ant can hollow out an immortal mountain!

You want to drain my yang energy to stay alive?

Then I'll steal your immortal essence and turn the universe upside down!

Clutching the scroll of the Frostflame Art's Yang Volume, Shi Chen smiled more fiercely than a vengeful ghost.

"Ling Shuangyue, you owe me a hundred years of warmth and cold. You'll repay it with your immortal future!"
