Willows and Smoke in Beiping

Yang Liu is sold to the warlord Zhao family and becomes the second young master’s “medicine.” To her surprise, he really does wake up, only to lash out at the “benefactor” who saved his life. She endures the humiliation; he treats her with contempt. Then one day, the master tosses her a student uniform. “Don’t bring shame to the Zhao family.” Amid the scratch of a fountain pen across rice paper, she sees this dog-eat-dog world clearly for the first time. And when he watches the once meek bride brought in to bring him good fortune daring to challenge a professor in class, his heart skips a beat. When the flames of war reach Beiping, the bride of old grips a stack of leaflets while the warlord’s young master raises his gun. What lies between them is far more than the distance between grand mansions and a humble life of daily necessities.
