The Legitimate Daughter's Substitute Marriage

The wedding music rang out louder and louder as the procession escorting Prince Li, Su Huaimin, to his wedding arrived at the gate of the Minister of Justice’s residence. But the bride-to-be was nowhere to be found. The imperial decree could no longer be changed. If the Minister of Justice’s household failed to produce a daughter, they would be guilty of deceiving the emperor. In this desperate situation, Qu Nishang, the legitimate daughter of the household, volunteered to take her younger sister’s place. An aide asked Prince Li, “Your Highness, there may be something wrong with the bride. Should we still go through with the wedding?” Prince Li stared absentmindedly at the bride who had arrived as promised. After a long pause, he said: “If she dares to marry me, what do I have to fear about marrying her?”
