Frenemies Always Find Each Other

If, ten thousand years from now, after we transmigrate across worlds and identities, forget our nationalities, and disregard life and death, we can still love each other, then I’ll marry you. Excerpt: “I can see eight hundred years into the past and eight hundred years into the future. I know the heavens above and the earth below. I’m eloquent and silver-tongued, dashing and debonair, handsome as a jade carving, with lips red as vermilion and brows and eyes like a painting…” “Vividly lifelike!” “You little brat, are you insulting me?” “I never said you had the heart of a pig and were missing a screw, or that you were three shades uglier than a yaksha. I never said you knew the heavens but couldn’t recognize the sun, or knew the earth but couldn’t tell a river from a mountain. I never said you speak like a stone carving or argue like a wooden statue. I never said your nose runs three thousand feet in the wind, that you’re not handsome but just dumb, that your face looks like sprouting weeds, your lips like raw blood, and your brows and eyes like a mountain crashing down on you. I certainly never said that just looking at you could drive away evil and bring good fortune, or that hearing you speak could stop a child from crying at night. How exactly did I insult you?”
