The Young Lady Can't Farm

Having run away from home to escape an arranged marriage, the pampered young lady of the Deputy Minister's household ends up in a tiny mountain village. She won't eat rice porridge or steamed corn buns, can't do laundry or cook, and is even afraid of the pigs when she goes to the outhouse. Ning Changqing says, “I don't cater to spoiled young ladies!” Yet behind her back, he tells his mother to give her less work. In the end, Ruofu learns to make pastries and play the zither, earning a fortune. She not only becomes self-sufficient, but also helps the Ning family open a shop. When it's time for her to leave, Ning Changqing doesn't try to stop her. “Ruofu is the bright moon in the sky, while I'm just dirt beneath her feet.”
