The Frail Cousin Miss Becomes the Talk of the Capital

【Domestic Intrigue】+【Marriage Before Love】+【Sweet Romance】 Synopsis: Pei Zhiwei, the maternal cousin who lives in the Minister of Rites' residence, was born with extraordinary beauty. Her slender waist could be encircled with one hand, and she moved like a willow swaying in the breeze. She looked every bit like a frail girl who had grown up in a medicine jar. Beautiful and delicate, she had an even more pitiable background: orphaned at a young age, she had traveled thousands of miles from the distant frontier to seek refuge with her maternal family. But life under someone else's roof was no easy thing. The Minister's residence was wealthy, yet her cousin disliked her, her female cousin detested her, and her aunt wished she were dead. But the most frightening of all was her cousin, a man of immense power and standing. Just seeing him made Pei Zhiwei's legs go weak, let alone trying to get along with him. Her beauty brought her no end of trouble at banquets. One outstanding young man after another in the capital insisted he would marry no one but her, and suitors came to her door without pause. Her cousin, whom she had always found tiresome, did everything he could to stop them. After finding a good match, she thought she could finally escape this cage. But a marriage decree bound her tightly to her cousin. Pei Zhiwei pleaded with him again and again, hoping he would refuse the match. She was truly afraid of him. The man comforted her gently. “The imperial decree cannot be disobeyed. Besides, I have always liked you, Cousin. Don't be afraid of me.” No one knew that Fu Xingjian had earned this marriage decree with his illustrious military victories. That day, he had knelt in the palace hall for a long time, all so he could keep his cousin by his side. Watching suitor after suitor line up to marry her had driven him nearly mad with jealousy.
