I Asked You to Direct a Love Story, Not a Monkey Movie

Chen Shi transmigrates to a parallel world and discovers that he is taking part in a live-streamed director's competition. Contestants must create a work on the spot based on a theme set by the judges. When the judges reveal that the theme is LOVE, the other contestants get to work, crafting stories of romance between schoolmates, office workers, wealthy heirs and Cinderella-like girls. Chen Shi goes against the grain and chooses A Chinese Odyssey. Just when viewers think the story will be about the romance between Tang Sanzang and the Queen of the Kingdom of Women, they discover that the lovers in Chen Shi's film are none other than the all-powerful, universe-spanning Monkey King and his beloved. Yet at first, there is no romance at all, only hilarious antics. Just as viewers begin to think Chen Shi has strayed from the theme, the story gradually draws them in. When Sun Wukong fails to catch Zixia, they finally understand: to have love, one must first gain great power; and to gain great power, one must first lose love forever...
