The Mute Wife Who Brings Her Husband Good Fortune

My new novel, Little Bao’s Search for His Family, is now out. Come on over, cuties! Song Sanlang, the most learned man in Shanghe Village, married a mute girl. The little mute had a lovely figure and a pretty face. She was famous as the most beautiful woman for miles around, but she couldn’t speak. Her stepmother said she was cheap, that five taels of silver was enough to trade for Wen Wan’s disdainful glare. Her sisters-in-law laughed that she was doomed to a hard life, unable to talk back even when people bullied her, and all she could give was Wen Wan’s disdainful glare. A fortune-teller said she would bring her husband good luck, and that one day she’d have fine clothes, delicious food, and servants galore. Wen Wan beamed: “Now that’s good.” 【The Little Mute’s Matchmaking Plan】 To pay her stepbrother’s tuition, her stepmother sold Wen Wan for five taels of silver, intending to make her a cripple’s second wife. Wen Wan clenched her little fists, determined not to accept her fate. Knowing that Song Sanlang of the Song family in Shanghe Village was plagued by bad luck, she ran into him one day in a sorghum field. Gathering her courage, she picked up a branch, crouched in front of him, and wrote: Marry me. I’ll bring you good luck. Song Sanlang looked at her writing, fell silent for a moment, then said, “All right.” 【Neither a transmigration nor a rebirth story. The hero and heroine are both natives of this world. The hero is on the imperial exam path, while the heroine has an extraordinary sixth sense. She is truly mute at first, but recovers her voice later. A cozy, doting slice-of-life tale about farming.】
