You and First Place Are Both Mine

[Novella contest entry] Everyone knows that No. 1 High has two campus beauties.

One is a rich and radiant beauty, like the moon reflected in water: gentle and kind, illuminating the night sky around her, yet impossible to reach.

The other is an aloof beauty, like snow atop a mountain: elegant and cool, with a world of her own, and she won’t even let people look at her.

Everyone also knows that only the aloof beauty can hold the rich beauty’s hand, and only the rich beauty can touch the aloof beauty’s head.

Some people have even seen them walking a dog together.

So, are you two dating?

The rich beauty looks bewildered. “No, we’re just neighbors.”

The aloof beauty says coldly, “Get lost.”

Don’t ask. They’re just the closest of friends, pure and innocent.
