The Ambitious, Unhinged Princess Has No Intention of Taking Responsibility for Her Consort

After the fall of the Nanqiang Kingdom, Xiao Ye, once the lofty crown prince, was cast down into the mud. Rumor had it that he was imprisoned and humiliated day after day by the most brutal princess of Beiyan, until his trusted retainers came to his rescue. Shen Yuan watched the man leisurely pour tea before her and asked coolly, “If you miss tonight, it’ll be much harder to escape the city. Do you know that?” Xiao Ye: “I know.” Shen Yuan frowned and grabbed him by the throat, forcing him to look up. “Then you’re just going to let your revenge go?” “Would Your Highness like me to take revenge, or not?” Shen Yuan withdrew her hand awkwardly. “I taught you to ride, shoot, and fight because I wanted you to use those skills when the time came.” That night, the guards at the Beiyan palace reported that Shen Yuan’s Nanqiang prince consort had escaped the city. He had gathered troops in the south and declared himself a ruler, setting himself against his own wife. A little over a month later, Shen Yuan launched a coup, killed her own father with her own hands, and seized the throne. At the far end of the Xiang River, Xiao Ye looked at Shen Yuan in her imperial robes and asked, “Now that you’ve achieved your wish, I have no use as your prince consort anymore, do I?” Shen Yuan: “I am the new ruler. The old prince consort is naturally of no use.” Just as Xiao Ye was sinking into despair, she changed tack. “The old prince consort is of no use, but the imperial consort’s seat is vacant.” In the second year of the Xuan Kingdom, the remaining forces of Nanqiang surrendered. The empress married, reclaimed Nanqiang’s lands, established a new reign title, and ruled alongside her consort.
