The Lansheng Pact

Synopsis Moon over Lancheng, a promise in Lancheng. But what night is this, and what month was that? I only wish the moon over Lancheng would always shine, and the promise in Lancheng would never fade. Eight years ago, a baffling massacre wiped out the entire Changshi Prefect’s residence. An ill-timed youthful encounter and a silent showdown on a cliff followed. In panic and confusion, misunderstandings piled up. She leapt off the cliff; he was consumed by regret. She hated him, and he could never forget her. Eight years later, he is a general of the Zhou Kingdom, aloof by nature. She is a physician in Lancheng, calm and composed. Their reunion shakes them both, yet they do not recognize each other. Feelings quietly emerge as they support one another, and they pledge themselves to each other after surviving life and death. But when the truth comes to light, they sever their love without mercy. After all the twists and turns, it seems everything has returned to where it began. Smoke signals rise across the land. National and family vengeance, political schemes, old grudges… Though they are worlds apart, they cannot resist the longing stirring between them. When the splendor fades, when all has changed, when the dust has settled, can they still fulfill the promise they made in Lancheng: to spend a lifetime together, with only each other by their side?
