Notes of an Onmyoji

A man cannot grow rich without a windfall, and a horse cannot grow strong without extra feed at night. But a windfall cannot enrich a man born to poverty, and extra feed cannot strengthen an exhausted, sick horse.

The first twelve words are the cause; the last fourteen are the result.

The day I was born, ten calamities descended from the heavens, and the whole town suffered.

The reason was that my great-grandfather had come into a windfall he should never have received.
