Fangfei and the City

As society continues to advance, women in the new era are pursuing "dual independence" in both economic and emotional terms. When it comes to buying a home, women now have more agency, decision-making power, and ability to pay. According to a 2020 report on women's home-buying trends, the proportion of single women purchasing homes has been rising year after year. This reflects not only social progress and women's personal growth, but also the complex tensions and changes in romantic relationships over time.

Lin Lang, a single mother, dreams of buying a home to shelter herself and her daughter from the elements.

Chu Huiwen has built a successful career and owns several properties, but the dating scene is full of all kinds of people. How could she sail smoothly through it? She can only hack her way through.

Tao Yaoyao, who moved west to seek her fortune, is about to marry her boyfriend. But when he learns that she owns a home with a mortgage, he has second thoughts. His mother-to-be derides her as "shameless," and the couple eventually goes their separate ways.

Some say, "A woman without a home is virtuous."

She says, "Well, I must be incredibly shameless."

She says, "I want to be that shameless woman."

For a woman, buying a home means having the courage to pursue love, the confidence to walk away, and the security to move freely through life's ups and downs. It affirms and protects a woman's property rights.

A woman who owns a home is not necessarily independent. True independence means being self-sufficient both economically and emotionally. Security isn't about how big your home is. It's about no longer worrying that you'll lose something, and feeling at ease, free, strong, and gentle within yourself.
