Yan Tian, Master of Divination

I’m a fortune-teller, and my family has three rules: there are three things I must never divine. I must not tell fortunes for ghosts, the dying, or pregnant women. But one day, a woman walked through my door. The warding bell rang, and a ghost entered with her. Yet I still read her fortune, breaking all three family rules. Even my father had his tongue cut and sealed because of it, and swore never to touch the counting beads again. To stay alive, I read people’s fortunes and challenged the heavens. Only at the very end did I discover the true secret of the Yan Tian lineage. Read people, not the heavens. Read yourself, not the soul.
