Who Still Takes the Imperial Exams in Times Like These?

Qin Lang transmigrated and became a poor scholar at the end of a dynasty.

His parents and eldest brother had just died, and now the local authorities wanted to tax the dead. His family of three was expected to pay the taxes for six.

On top of that, a scheming woman had coaxed him into taking the imperial examinations for someone else, hoping he would risk his life for money.

Faced with this mess, Qin Lang tore up the Confucian classics. "What kind of nonsense is taking the exams? The world is in chaos. Who still cares about the civil service examinations?"

From a single piece of plaster to monopolizing trade routes; from being bullied by the village head to having the county magistrate come knocking for help; from his family going hungry to commanding a powerful army.

Someone asked him, "Aren't you afraid the court will suspect you're plotting a rebellion?"

Qin Lang smiled. "When the court suspects you of rebellion, you'd better actually be rebelling."
