Lord of a Chaotic Age: A Great Empire Rises from the Grassroots

In times of chaos, are refugees doomed to wait for death? In a land ravaged by war, refugees starve by the thousands. Commoners sell their wives and daughters, and trade children for food. Can Heaven be overthrown? Some say: It can. Under the mighty Great Xia, the emperor rules by divine mandate, while eunuchs and treacherous ministers hold sway. The ruler is benighted, the nation in doubt. Can Heaven be overthrown? Some say: It can! Lin Ming wakes to find himself one of the lowest-ranking refugees in Great Xia. No food, no land, no home. All he has is a younger brother who depends on him, and a fiancée about to be taken away by her creditor. Drawing on the knowledge in his mind, Lin Ming starts with nothing and builds a home, acquires farmland, and opens a distillery. But just as he thinks he can finally protect his wife and children and live in peace, the barbarian cavalry suddenly sweeps south! Only then does Lin Ming realize: Money cannot protect his home. And even with a home, he cannot protect his fellow villagers. To survive, he needs food, land, people, and, above all, a blade! While others only want to stay alive, he steadily builds a power of his own. Until one day, the barbarian cavalry surrounds the city. The county seat is under siege, and the people kneel and plead for their lives. Everyone believes they can only wait for death this time. But Lin Ming takes up his blade and climbs the city wall. “I only wanted to protect my own home.” “But now…” “Millions upon millions across this land have no home to return to.” “If no one will defend them, then I will!” From refugee to local lord. From local lord to warlord. Then to contender for the realm. In this life, Lin Ming will not settle for merely surviving. Since this is an age of chaos
