The Maid's Torment

One song on the zither brought her his merciless possession. At her mistress’s sigh, she became his lowly maid, and he became her new master. From then on, she risked everything to test poisons for him, from then on, she threw herself in front of arrows to protect him, from then on, she gave him everything, even going so far as to find him a favored concubine. But little did she know, she had lost her soul to him. She had lost her heart to him and conceived his child. Her repeated sacrifices earned her only betrayal, a bowl of medicine, and the man she loved becoming a princess’s consort.
